It's a boutique 11 room bed and breakfast hotel but has eveything you could want, a beach nearby, great restaurants nearby, great everything nearby, not to mention scrumptious breakfasts. The hotel's set in a 1890s villa and is possibly the antithesis of everything that a Hilton stands for.All the rooms are individually designed and lined with New Zealand artwok. The walls are not beige but beautiful. It feels like your home, but at the same time it feels like the best holiday - it's just a lovely hotel; so relaxing and everything you want is taken care of for you.Our hosts told us where to go, booked us on our trips and bartered the best deals for us, but really we just wanted to stay in the hotel, and it's not often that that happens. It's set in a side street so it's dead quiet but it's literally one minute from again literally the best coffee shops & restaurants (no1/no2 in Auckland, rated by Auckland metro magazine), art shops and boutique fashion lines. There's a lovely beach a 10-minute walk away that really is a hidden gem and can be classed as Auckland's best kept secret - really only locals go to it - on Hamilton Rd. There's a hotel there to but really if you don't have a car you want to be somewhere that's near the bus route and close to Auckland's CBD aswell.Auckland's viaduct is just 10 minutes away by bus. You can sip your glass of Sauv and watch the ships sail by. Or, a bit closer, also highly recommended is Shanghai Lils, just down the road from the arthotel. Take your date their for a romantic evening, sip cocktails and listen to Jazz in a very darkly lit, beautifully decorated romantic experience that's unique and great. And when you wake up after your hangover - enjoy the arthotels made to order cooked breakfast, fresh fruit salad and buttery crumpets.
