I had the pleasure of staying in room 657 at Mohonk Mountain House. Room 657 is one of their Victorian rooms with a full sized bed and a twin sized bed. It is also one of the seventy rooms that has a fireplace. A balcony with a few rocking chairs provided a lofty view of the parking lot, but it was still nice, nonetheless.Although I spent a lot of time at the conference I was attending, I was still able to take advantage of some of the recreational spaces that Mohonk has to offer including the indoor heated swimming pool that allows you to hear music underwater, the fitness gym with a plethora of treadmills, elipticals and weight machines, and the myraid of hiking trails. I highly recommend Sky Top Mountain; it is one of the more popular trails, and the view is breathtaking and worth bringing a camera. It is about a 15 minute hike upward.Additional activities that Mohonk offers include boating, horseback riding, iceskating and rock climbing. Some of the little things that I appreciated was the hairdryer in the room since I forgot mine at home and the afternoon tea hour at 4pm, in which you can indulge in some delicious cookies and drink some warm herbal teas in one of their lounges or reading rooms. One of my colleagues had told me that she bumped into Steven King in the elevator. In short, if Mohonk Mountain is good enough for Steven King, it is good enough for me. I highly recommend this place for couples seeking a quiet getaway.
