My wife and I have stayed at many a bed & breakfast in New England and Northeast Canada and we have to say that our stay at the Lion’s Head was excellent…top notch. It’s no wonder that it’s rated as the best b&b in Niagara Falls. First, the location can’t be beat. It’s situated right on River Road, a scenic 10-minute stroll from the American and Canadian falls. Then you have the accommodations which were incredibly charming and really capture the history of the area. Helena, the proprietor, has decorated her home in a wonderfully unique style that can be best described as classic French with a Niagara flair. The common areas have a variety of antique furnishings and publications that really convey the age and rich historical significance of the Falls. The rooms themselves are very cozy and quant. Each boasted a theme after a renowned artist. We chose the Van Gogh room which had a very nice view overlooking the gorge. The queen bed was Incredibly comfortable, so much so that we actually slept for nearly 10 hours each night. Then there is Helena who truly is the “hostess with mostest”. You can tell from the moment you meet her that she’s pursuing her passion. Aside from her engaging stories about Niagara Falls, she has a wealth of information and touring tips for Niagara newbies. Everything she suggested seeing from select wineries to Fort Niagara were great choices and really added to our entire trip experience. Finally, if you enjoy fine dining as much as we do, then Lion’s Head is in the inn for you. After learning about Helena’s culinary training in Canada and Britain, we were eager to experience her decadent breakfasts. And let us tell you, they were amazing. Helena prepared three phenomenally delicious breakfast feasts during our three-day stay…egg frittata with salmon in a dill sauce, eggs benedict a la Helena, and French toast soufflé with blueberry coulis. Every bite was savored. The next time we head to Niagara Falls we’ll definitely be paying Helena and the Lion’s Head Bed & Breakfast another visit.
