We stayed at the FAVC in Cancun for 7 days and for the most part were very impressed with the accommodations and especially with the friendly service and great food at the Palapa Restaurant. They originally had us booked on the first floor's east side. After checking into the room, we found that although the one-bedroom unit was great, there was not much of a view. We asked for a different accommodation the next morning and they happily moved us to the fifth floor over the lobby with great great views of the pool area, the beach, and the island. The pool area is kept immaculate and the pool was great. Not a big beach but we found it to be quite nice sitting under one of the palapas. The only complaint was that there does not seem to be much hot water in the morning for showers, but after about 4pm there is all the hot water you could want, so we just adjusted a bit and took showers in the evening. The FAVC is in easy walking distance to major malls such as the forum and several good restaurants such as the Argentine Steak House and the Hard Rock Café. You can take a bus a bit further down hotel row and if you like American food there is the Outback, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Bubba Gump's, and others. They also exchange currency right at the resort, which was very helpful. The only comment is if you are renting a car, watch the speed zones very carefully. It seems that they target visitors and rental cars. The policia also are corrupt and would much rather accept cash than write a ticket. I should know; after all, it cost me $60 at 4:30 in the morning on my way to the airport. It was very evident that the officer wanted money and was not interested in writing a citation. Next time we will arrange with FAVC and get transportation back and forth from the resort and then take public buses and taxis.
