For those who want the full Hawaiian experience, The "Old Lahaina Luau" is the best place to go while in Maui! Since this a full dinner and show, you will need to make your reservations in advance. This place was packed when we went! And for good reason...When we arrived, we were greeted by a host that gave us floral leis, and gave us menus with our last name printed on them. They took us to our table (which is a long table shared with several other people), and told us we could start by getting some drinks at the bar. Since this is a buffet, you pay one price and eat/drink to your heart's content. (I think it was around $58 a person.) So we drank Mai Tai's all night, (and had hangovers the next morning). The buffet was complete with all of the authentic Hawaiian food you would expect. They even roasted a pig in banana leaves over hot charcoal. Then there was the poi... I'm not sure of what poi is made of, but I didn't like it. It had no flavor and was dark gray in color. I guess the Hawaiian people like it, but I don't think I'll be trying it again anytime soon. After we finished with dinner, the sun started to set, and the luau started. It was complete with hula dancers, singers, fire dancers, etc. The show gives you insight into the Hawaiian culture, as they explain through song and dance, who the Hawaiian gods are. (i.e. "Pele" is the Goddess of Fire.) They are also big on audience participation. The people that work here are very friendly and fun! You'll have a great time if you have dinner here!
