Anchorage Resort and Yacht Club 107800 Overseas HighwayKey Largo, FL , 33037 , USA Phone: 305/451-0500 This resort is located right on the US 1 highway as soon as you cross the draw bridge into Key Largo. When we pulled up I was highly disappointed—from the outside the building looks like it is going to be a ‘dump’. This first impression is as wrong as you can get , the rooms which are all one bedroom units are clean and reasonable, and there were no complaints on the accommodations at all. There is a king-size bed in the bedroom, a sofa bed in the living room and a full, well equipped kitchen. Each unit has a waterside view which is on the bay side with a nice slow pace of boats passing by. There is even a waterfront restaurant/bar which has live music every night so you can sit on your balcony and enjoy the sounds which at that distance are very pleasant. The balconies are screened in - -which is a necessity based upon the number of mosquito bites everyone received when we were out at the pre-dusk times. In addition to sun block and bottled water necessities, bug spray is an absolute MUST!!!! The office staff is WONDERFUL in assisting you to pick restaurants and local activities, they are exceptionally pleasant to talk with, and their recommendations are stellar!!! The RCI site warns you that the resort is located on the last draw bridge on the keys and that as a result there could be noise—I read that to mean in the operation of the draw bridge, so I figured how often could that be a problem. The noise is not the operation the noise is the metal open frame roadway. When you first arrive you think you hear thunder in the distance all the time—no that is just cars driving over the bridge, and there are ALWAYS cars driving over the bridge. Once you know the origin of the noise and become accustomed—it does become a ‘white noise’ and no bother at all. The resort has a small pool which is maintained well enough and a whirlpool which teenagers had filed with soap products while we were there so we never used it (but we aren’t big on community hot tubs anyway). The location is very convenient for the water activities of Key Largo. Key Largo is not a big area for beaches but rather for the water activities and good restaurants.
