We decided against the prepackaged tour. We took the Collectivo (local bus) $2.50 from the Bus Station in Playa, and headed to Tulum. The bus made several stops along the way. However, this was the norm for us, since we both were from a Caribbean island. We walked from the bus stop all the way into the Archaeological site. A word of advise, do not forget to wear hiking shoes, and sun block. The ruins were amazing, the scenery, the ocean were breath taking. My boyfriend spent al lot of time searching for the iguanas that camouflage themselves with the ruins. We also decided against the local tour guides. We bought a pictorial guide from the book store before the tour. This was a lot less touristy, and comical.
