Of course when one goes to Athens, the first place they're going to seek out is the Acropolis! It is absolutely amazing to be there and if you can, you definitely want to go more than once. The best time to go is as early and late as you can go. That's when the top is the clearest of tourists and you can get the best possible pictures. I recommend bringing a small bag for your stuff, because they will make you put any backpack or similar bigger bag into a storage place. It is extremely windy on top and you might want a jacket despite how hot it can get in Greece. Again, you're going to want sturdy shoes to climb up to see the monuments. Now, what most people don't realize is that the Acropolis consists of many different ancient sites, including two theaters and an entire ancient village. The original Athens, if you will. Now, when you go to the Acropolis, you will pay a fee of anywhere from 10 to 30 Euros (if you are a student or under 25, get the International Student Identity Card! It is well worth the discount where you go. I actually got in free because I was in a university there, so there is another thing that's pretty awesome about the sites around Greece.). This fee actually will get you into the sites surrounding the area. Also, if you are visiting in the summertime, try and get to the outdoor theaters (Herodotus and Dionysus). They are well worth the amount of money you spend (again, the ISIC card gets you an incredible discount) to see a good show and an awesome atmosphere.
