When my friends and I travelled to Amsterdam during my stay in Europe, we made all of our travel arrangements at the last possible minute. Luckily we had other friends that were familiar with the area that highly recommended the Golden Tulip to us for our hotel accommodations. We were able to reserve a room on short notice in the Spring time—not the tremendously busy season, but a good time to check this city out nonetheless.
The Golden Tulip is one of the best hotels for an American to stay in when they visit Amsterdam. First of all, the convenient location is within a mile of the city's center and train station making it easy to access from transportation and area attractions. You won't spend too much time looking for it either—almost all of the locals can point you in the right direction as this is a well-known establishment (instead of some of the other no-name hotels that you can end up in as an unsuspecting tourist).
Aside from being convenient, the Golden Tulip has been updated with many modern amenities—those which most American travelers have come to expect from domestic accommodations, but rarely get in the older European hotels. Every room has updated decor, minibars, air-conditioning and Internet access. They also have ironing boards which are a convenience that most other local hotels don't have. The rooms are very tasteful in their modern decor; guests feel like they are staying at a very posh boutique hotel.
The Golden Tulip has two very nice restaurants on the premises that look more like art galleries than pubs, but serve great casual food and drinks. The Art Cafe is the perfect place to go for a beer after a long day of sight-seeing. The Gallery is better for sit-down meals, and here they serve an excellent breakfast for hotel guests.
The staff at the Golden Tulip was superb, giving us tips on area attractions and making sure that our stay was pleasant. The restaurant staff and housekeeping services were also on top of their game. We really lucked out in getting a room last minute here, and would not hesitate to use this hotel again on future trips.
