What awaited us at the end of a long, hot (but scenic) drive from Los Angeles was nothing short of perfection. The Desert Pearl Inn is adorable! We loved its location, perched in the mouth of Zion Park itself. Our room (a pool view--312) looked at the valley of the park, an amazing sight! My folks had a "river view" room and that looked at the huge red cliffs and spires that back the Virgin River, which runs right in front of your hotel room door.
We all appreciated how the Inn was designed to blend in with the surroundings, accomplishing almost a Zen beauty with the red rocks and green trees. The use of wood and metal are ingenious and beautiful. No detail was left undone. Someone loved this place, and it shows. The beds are so comfortable!
The Desert Pearl is located right off the main highway through town and does get some highway noise. If this sort of thing bothers you, go for the river-view rooms. We had a room that faced the pool and had some road noise, but WHO CARED? All you did was sit there with your mouth hanging open at the view anyway. It really didn't bother us at all, and inside the room, you can hear nothing.
Desert Pearl rooms are so comfortable that I forgot I was in a hotel. Beautifully decorated (see website) and incredibly clean, they offer a weary hiker so much comfort on his return. The bathroom is enormous, with a bidet (my 5-year-old LOVED this). The verandas (with huge wooden deck chairs) are gigantic, almost half the size of the room. Gathering there in the evenings to watch the gathering storm clouds scoot over those crags with a cocktail is just too much.
The pool area at the Pearl is exquisite, with a great jacuzzi that is backed by a waterfall!
Although the most expensive hotel in the area (by far), it is well worth it. There are free movies to rent every evening (as if you could stay awake after all that hiking, but my kids adored it), and coffee, fridge, and paper plates in the room. They literally have thought of everything at this hotel to make you comfortable and it shows.
