This was really a great place to stay. You can rent one of eight condominiums that face Half Moon Bay. You are steps from the water and can snorkel in front of the units. This condo is located in the gated community of Playa Akumal. It is very peaceful and quiet. You can rent a golf cart or bicycle to go the two miles or so to the gate where there are two small grocery stores (Super Chomak and El Pueblo, one is local and the other owned by and American- much higher prices here), restaurants, shops, and the public beach.

A mile or so the other way is the lagoon or Yal Ku, where you can snorkel for only 5 dollars. We saw all kinds of fish, turtles, sting-rays etc. At night you can see turtles laying their eggs on the beach and at the same time, babies are hatching. One night a giant turtle walked right up beside my husband and I.

The condominiums are lovely and huge. Two balconies, a huge kitchen, living area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Warning: the air conditioners do not always work and neither do all the televisions. But who needs television when you can snorkel and watch turtles? There was maid service daily and they really cleaned each day- even did the dishes- spend about an hour each time. The manager was very friendly and was available to give advice about local attractions and transportation. You can arrange for transportation by van her for other parts, but he was nice enough to tell me how I could do it cheaper out on the road. This is a quiet, family type setting. We got a 90 dollar a night price as a summer special. Look around for good prices on the Internet. There are several sites that rent these condos and the prices vary. Because each is owned by a different owner- some have t.v.'s and air conditioners that work and some don't.
