Shippen Way Inn

I recently had guests fly in for a wedding, and I reserved a room for them at the historic Shippen Way Inn. The owners lovingly restored this circa 1750 rowhouse; each room is unique and transports you back to Colonial times. Antique furniture and handmade quilts adorn the rooms, which range from tiny to master-size. My friend reserved the most popular room; it had a four-poster bed, a working fireplace, and a view of the Inn's peaceful backyard garden.

The owners are gracious and warm. The breakfast features muffins, granola and fresh fruit, and is served in the kitchen's nook or on the white wrought-iron tables on the patio. They serve wine and cheese in the afternoon.

The location is perfect for the tourist because you are only five blocks away from Independence Park, one block from the South Street nightlife, and and five blocks from the Olde City nightlife. It can be noisy on the weekends, but you can request a room facing the garden in the back.
