The accommodations were amazing. The view from our room opened up onto a picturesque canal, intersected by a cobblestone bridge. The rooms were a bit more modern than the exterior betrayed, but this only enhanced the experience. It was the best of both worlds.

The location was ideal. Just far enough off the main squares to be quiet, but close enough that you felt a part of the scene. There were many wonderful pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walk, and the prices were drastically lower than those on the squares.

The only noticeable drawback was the canals use as a tour route. Something to beware of if you request, or are given, a canal side view. The romanticism of the night before is easily replaced by the capatalism of early morning boats full of camera clutching tourists. However, if you're not a late sleeper and accept the fact that beauty attracts attention, you'll easily be able to look right past this minor drawback.
