Hotel Montalembert

Located on the Left Bank, the Hotel Montalembert is a small, very chic hotel that styles itself as catering to a hip crowd. The hotel''s location is terrific - situated just off the Rue de Bac and Rue St-Germain, it is a short walk to the Musee D''Orsay, the Seine and the Louvre. The front desk staff are very friendly and will do just about anything for you. The hotel restaurant is very good and also serves a lovely breakfast (included in room rate) with the most wonderful croissants, breads and marmalades. We were particularly taken with the outgoing waiters that we saw each morning. The staff is excellent!

I was last at the Montalembert in 1995. The hotel offers two styles of room decor - a hip "neoclassical" style and a more tradional "antique" style. We had an "antique" room, which was decorated with (what else) antiques, including a large bed with carved wooden headboard, an armchair and a large armoire fitted with a safe. The marble bathroom had all new chrome fixtures and its walls were covered with mirrors, but it was impossibly small. The room itself was comfortable, but small. We had a tiny balcony that overlooked the street had afforded lovely views of the Paris rooftops.

The room was just fine, however, we paid almost $400 per night, and I remember thinking "this is a $400 room?" when I first walked in.

The Montalembert is a lovely hotel. If you don''t mind the room rate, I am sure you will be very happy with the excellent staff and comfortable (albeit small) rooms.
