The Frenchman Hotel, one of the French Quarter Quartet chain, is a half a block from where the Quarter officially ends, at Esplanade. It is located next to a fire station, but no alarms sounded during my stay. The rooms are clean, and the location offers a pool and spa, both open until midnight. This hotel is very accessible by either walking through the Quarter or taking the Riverfront streetcar to the last stop and crossing the street. Also located nearby is the U.S. mint on Esplanade. This hotel is located in the "newest hip spot," a jazz lover’s dream. On the upside, I fell asleep to the sounds of live jazz nightly. On the downside, if you’re on the first floor and there are kids staying with their families in the hotel, it does tend to get a bit loud. Very friendly and helpful staff.

All of the hotels in this chain require half of the total due via money order, check or credit card, within two weeks of booking. St. Peter, another of their hotels, was slow to cash my personal check. I called the Frenchman three times prior, and they still hadn’t cashed my check upon arrival. The upside to that was, of course, that after 90 days, my check was now void, so I received a "half-off" fare. If you stay at any of the hotels in this chain and pay your deposit with a personal check, make sure you call to check on the status if it doesn’t post to your bank account right away.
