Krystal Ixtapa Hotel

The Krystal is a very attractive hotel on the main strip, situated between the Continental Plaza and the Dorado Pacifico. The staff was helpful but certainly not the best I have come across. We only ate one meal at the hotel, so I can’t really comment too much on the quality. The pool is very nice, divided into three distinct areas, not including the separate children’s pool. Kyle had a great time jumping off the waterfall (explicitly posted as you may do it, but at your own risk). Rooms are quite nice, well sized with balconies for all. They do lack hair dryers, irons or coffee makers, but when we requested an iron they brought one up and left it with us for the entire week. Our maid did a great job artistically arranging tropical blossoms with the bath linens, varying the effect each day. But there was no way for an early riser to get coffee except buying it for a buck and half a cup. This contrasts with many places were an urn of gratis java can be found in the lobby somewhere.

We ate lunch at the poolside cafe shortly after arrival, as the rooms were not yet ready and there was little else to do. Kyle ordered seafood soup and the waiter did not think to mention that the soup included a whole lobster, unpeeled shrimp and huge chunks of fish and octopus (two joined tentacles of about 8 inches), which made it quite a handful for a nine year old. I mentioned in the lead article that we had a great rate, but I would look closely at the competition before returning to the Krystal.
