The Lauterbrunnen Valley, to the southwest of Interlaken, starts with the village of Lauterbrunnen and ends with the village of Stechelberg. Lauterbrunnen Valley is the less touristy alternative to Grindelwald. The valley is more narrow and compact, with 72(!) waterfalls, according to one guidebook. In the village of Lauterbrunnen itself is the awesome, 300-meter-tall Staubbach Falls.
