This huge, beautiful building with the three-story marble rotunda in the centre houses a fabulous collection of paintings and sculpture by just about every famous artist you could wish to see. It's especially impressive to see the Da Vinci and Caravaggio paintings in the Italian section, the Van Gogh, Matisse, Degas, Cezanne, etc in the Impressionist galleries and the Dutch masters all displayed within rooms of each other. The traveling exhibit of French realist paintings were so true to life that you could barely see brush strokes on the canvass. Allow at least half a day to do the gallery justice, and longer if you can!
