Varosliget - City Park

Member Rating 4 out of 5 by idared on May 9, 2002

The largest park of the city, Varosliget is what Central Park is to New York. It's a place to get fit, to relax, to have fun. Besides being a relaxing and quiet place to hang out and have a picnic, the park provides many sights worth visiting. The Zoo, an amusement park, an open air ice rink (the largest in Europe) in the winter, which is turned into a paddling lake for the warm months, a concert hall, which also houses the weekly flea market (see separate entry), and restaurants like the world famous Gundel. You can rent a bike or a fun 4-person bike and explore the huge green area. Or for a unique experience, try the Szechenyi Bath, a very popular thermal bath.

Absorbing all the sights and culture of the city can be an exhausting experience, and Varosliget (Hungarian for "City Park") is the perfect place to unwind for a few hours or even the whole day.
