The Billy Tea bush tour (4 wheel drive) has to be the best day tour we were lucky enough to go on during the course of our 12 day Aussie adventure. Our tour guide picked us up in the morning at our hotel and then we began our journey to the Daintree River. Our guide John, stopped about half way there so that we could get film and take a short bathroom break. This was a scenic drive along the coastal route where our views ranged from oceans to farm land to mountains. At the Daintree River we had a quick snack and soon boarded a boat for an informative cruise down the river. The open-sided, pontoon style boat was great for our ride through the rainforest. We were able to get up close to a crocodile, birds, rainforest fruits, pythons and other tree snakes. After the boat tour, our guide picked us up again and we headed up the Alexandria Range. We stopped for a few pictures overlooking the Cape Tribulation and then we were off again to the rainforest. We pulled into an area where a crystal clear stream flows through the forest. There we met another group of people on the same tour and the guides set up camp stoves where they cooked BBQ steak for all of us. They also set up a table with wine and beverages, pasta salad, salad, and rainforest fruits. After we cleaned up, we left and drove to Cape Tribulation National Park where we went on a rainforest walk. Our guide took us through the forest on a wooden bridge and pointed out flowers and trees, as well as a number of rainforest animals. When we completed the walk, we had some free time to walk alone near the beach and follow another trail. Back at the truck, we made another quick stop for a bathroom/refreshment break and were on our way back to the hotels. However, our guide had one more surprise for us on the way back. We drove into a farm area, where there was a small home-made ice cream stand. I tried a trio of flavors all made from rainforest fruits. It was delicious and not something that was scheduled during the tour. However, the guide was nice enough to bring us there. Our guide as well as the guide we met at the BBQ were so friendly and helpful. I have to tell you to take this tour if you are in Cairns. It is the best one for your money!
