Central Park Conservatory Garden

Shhh...This gorgeous oasis is New York's only formal garden. Not too many people know about it, thank God, and it's a bit far north for many folks. Let the rest of them flock to the Sheep Meadow--the serenity it's possible to find here is worth any hike. Officially declared a 'Quiet Zone,' the only activity you'll find is a painter arranging her canvas or a couple strolling arm and arm through shaded alleys.

Take the 6 train to 96th Street and then walk over to 5th Avenue. You can also get off at 103rd St, but you'll be in Spanish Harlem, a colorful, but poor neighborhood. I've never had any problem walking through here during the day.

The Conservatory Garden is open daily from 8:00 am until dusk.
