I doubt too many people would even mention this preserve, but we enjoyed it very much. The State Forest is ringed by paved bicycle and jogging trails and criss-crossed with fire roads ideal for hiking and horseback riding. This was perfect for us to regain our biking skills away from the crowds and traffic. We packed a picnic lunch and took off through the trails. The forest was not dense so the various plants, flowers and wildlife made a wonderful presentation of Martha's Vineyard undisturbed. One thing I noticed about the island in general was the almost complete lack of public picnic areas. If you enjoy this activity as we do, take a blanket and make your own. We did.
