La Villa Mahana was the highlight of our dining experience in French Polynesia. Tucked away in a small lane off the main road on Bora Bora, the restaurant is, in fact, a tiny villa with white-washed walls and a quasi-Mediterranean feel. The cooking is pure French (leaning towards French Provencal) with island flavors (mango, Tahitian vanilla). There are several set menus, or you can order a la carte. On our visit there, I had an exquisite piece of fresh mahimahi, and my husband has a perfect rack of lamb, preceded by foie gras and goat cheese tart appetizers. It was sheer indulgence.
