Dine where the locals do for a fabulous breakfast or lunch. Dining at The Good Egg is like eating at grandma’s house. The harvest-yellow walls seduce and the pastel impressionistic art sooths. It puts people in a relaxed country state of mind. A pitcher of lemon water waits on every table. It is absolutely one of my favorite places for breakfast.
There are 10 locations throughout the Phoenix area and 4 in Tucson. The Good Egg is a great place with a huge menu that includes low-fat and low-carb options. They also feature skillet meals; benedicts; "Crepeggs" (combining omelettes with crepes); a dozen different omelets; pancakes; blintzes, French toast; yogurt smoothies; HUGE, homemade cinnamon rolls; Southwestern options; sandwiches; and salads.
My favorite dish is the Harvest Benedict, with smoked turkey with avocado and tomatoes on an English muffin topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. YUM! Other great items include the Greek Frittata, with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, red onion, red bell peppers, chicken under melted parmesan, asiago, and provolone, and topped with feta, kalamta olives, and marinated tomatoes. And the Hey Ricky omelette is stuffed with green chili, chorizo sausage, and guacamole and topped with cheese, with a side of sour cream and salsa. It’s VERY tasty.
They also serve fresh squeezed OJ and grapefruit juice, which is a HUGE deal to me.
The lunch menu has some interesting options as well. Try the strawberry fields salad with organic field greens tossed in a non-fat raspberry vinaigrette and topped with diced bacon, honey smoked turkey, dried cranberries, sliced strawberries, feta cheese, red onion, and pecans. OH MY GOD, it’s SO good!
Be warned that on the weekends, there is always a line to get in. During the week, the place is full of people, from construction workers to business suit-clad diners to college students.
There’s a reason why this is a valley favorite. The Good Egg was voted "Best Breakfast" by the Arizona Republic, Phoenix New Times, and Zagat Survey of Restaurants in the Southwest.
Hours are 7 days a week from 6:30am to 2:30pm. You can Google the name for the various locations.
