El Rey de las Fritas

American coffee is really, really terrible, and for coffee lovers, a stop at Little Havana is a blessing. Amongst the numerous snack-bar/coffeehouses you can find, El Rey de las Fritas still has that neighbourhood hangout feeling. Here, coffee is strong, aromatic and made with an old, glittering coffee machine and served in small coffee cups. If you want to soak the atmosphere, order something and observe, this is the best way to get a real feel of Little Havana. In general, people are quite in a hurry and stop for a quick cup of coffee or just to snack, but it seems like everybody knows each other. If you don’t like coffee, the bar also has a lot of tropical fruit juices, and not the kind you’ll find in your local grocery store!

And the fritas are very good too... they're very, very thin, crispy brown and although I didn't try the sauce, my husband's comment was "awesome" - that says it all.
