A grand old hotel that could use a little polishing

My wife and I stayed in the SF Fairmont for one Saturday night at a very good price and got an upgrade to a larger room when we asked, which was nice. The high ceilings and quality furnishings were beautiful, the room very spacious and the bed was great. The mini-bar automatically charges you if you remove anything, so be sure to check your bill if you remove things just to put your own bottle of wine in the fridge. The biggest issue we had was noisy hallways - some of that is unavoidable from the building acoustics but the hotel should replace the door springs to make the doors close more quietly and the staff should be told to keep their voices down in the morning. We got a late checkout, which was nice, but no apology for an error on our bill, nor a "thanks" or "come visit us again" when leaving. Overall this old beauty could use some touching up.
