First and foremost, the staff at this hotel are excellent. Very friendly, very helpful. Really, really nice people. The complimentary breakfast is actually pretty good, with an assortment of juices, pastries, muffins, fruit, cereals, warm food items (eggs, bacon, sausage), and a waffle maker. All seemed fresh, and tasted pretty good. The room was comfortable. The bed was comfortable. The pool and exercise areas were clean, as were the common areas. The lobby has a shelf filled with books that you can borrow (if you're like me and can't get to sleep without doing some reading first#. Every afternoon they have warm fresh baked cookies in the lobby. The hotel is right next to the race track, and adjacent to a shopping and entertainment complex. #If you have kids make sure to check out T-Rex for a truly unique dining environment). There were two minor issues when we arrived that keep me from rating this hotel with a 5 instead of the 4 that I gave it. First was that there was a bad odor in the hallways. Kind of like a body odor smell. The first day I thought that someone had just walked through, but the smell persisted throughout my stay. I'd add that the room itself smelled fine, and the odor was confined to just the hallways. The second was that when we checked in there were food crumbs and used toothpicks on the floor between the bed and the nightstand. Other than that the room was clean, but this is one of those little details that should have been taken care of by the cleaning staff before the guests are given a key to the room. Over all this was a pretty good hotel, and I had a very good stay in Kansas City.
