El Dorado was definitely an excellent location for exploring historic downtown. Our room # was 516, double bed with a balcony facing west [no mountain view but wonderful sunsets] and a fireplace. Towels and bedding were clean and soft. Unfortunately the mattresses were way to "marshmallow" like; I guess our backs like firmer beds. Coffee maker did not work. Room lighting was poor in the area around the fireplace. Internet connection gave us only 3 bars sometimes. Staff was very friendly and helpful upon arrival in the evening, but front counter staff in the morning was not very helpful with directions; they did not even offered a map until we asked for one. Cleaning staff did not look very friendly. But the real downer was the freezing cold pool. We alerted staff about it in two different days, but problem was not solved. Note that valet parking fee is $24 per day and that self-parking is not available, but valet staff is very helpful [they even gave us better directions that the staff at the front counter], and your car will be pretty safe in the hotel's parking garage. Conclusion: We feel we definitely did not get good value for the money paid, except for the location.
