A great place to stay in Long Beach

We cannot be more pleased with our stay at Hotel Maya. Quiet, comfortable, fantastic views. We stayed for 3 nights in December 2011 before taking a cruise. Our Princess cruise left from the San Pedro pier - a $25 taxi ride away. We did not want to stay near the San Pedro pier because the area is very industrial and noisy with no attractions, dining or shopping. We wanted to be near Long Beach shopping and attractions but did not want a "big city" downtown hotel. Hotel Maya feels more like a small resort hotel. The large room had beautiful hardwood flooring. The bathroom had a huge custom walk-in shower. We did not have a car which was not a problem. The City of Long Beach runs a free city bus that serves the waterfront attractions (aquarium, Shoreline Village dining and shops, Queen Mary, etc) and the downtown shopping area. The bus runs every 12 to 20 minutes (depending on the time of day) and stops right in front of the hotel. The free bus also stops at the Transit Center were you can transfer to other area buses or trains. We had breakfasts at the hotel restaurant. A great menu that was surprisingly well priced. The first night we arrived very late and the restaurant was closed. The shop located in the lobby had a good selection of snacks and microwave meals to deal with my late night hunger. Cannot find anything bad to say - this was a wonderful place to stay.
