Lovely hotel, but don't expect 5-star service

I stayed at the Intercontinental Montreal with my daughter (9) for 5 nights in November 2011. Overall, our experience was average and did not meet our expectations for a 5-star hotel. (We travel internationally regularly and tend to stay in 4- and 5-star hotels.) First, the pros: the hotel is lovely; the on-site restaurant, Osco, is delightful, the staff is courteous, and the rooms are large and comfortable. The cons, however, might eclipse the pros. These include the following: the maids did not change our glassware (after it was used) or replace the coffee in our room for three days; even after contacting the reception desk each day, this problem was never resolved (although each time I was assured that it would be corrected immediately). Our bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned (the sink still had toothpaste on it after the room was cleaned). Internet access is not included in the cost of the rooms. Finally, room service is quite slow. Overall, our experience was okay, but we were expecting something more than "okay" from this hotel.
