My experience at Hotel 1898 couldn't have been better. I was a little wary before I went due to a small number of reviews related to the service, but I couldn't have been happier with the service (and I had several requests per day for them). The staff was excellent. They were friendly and nearly all of them spoke English well. The tapas that we ate on the roof top was very good. In terms of cost, it was comparatively a little higher than other local Tapas restaurants, but it had a great view of the city (its on the roof) and it was very peaceful that made the cost differential well worth it. The room was very up to date and it was kept very clean. Note: the cleaning staff never woke us asking to clean the room, but always conducted their cleaning while we were out. I had read reviews regarding the noise level and was afraid that I would hear our neighbors shaving or hear street noise when we were trying to sleep, but contrary to expectation these concerns did not materialize during the 6 nights we stayed at the hotel. (We were on the fourth floor facing Fortuny and could see La Rambla from our balcony.) One of the nicest parts of our stay was the four computers in the library on the first floor. We were able to access the internet and stay in touch with folks back home via Facebook. Each day we downloaded pictures to our FB pages and posted notes that allowed us to keep a journal of our trip to Barca. Finally, we took a Gaudi bus tour that was recommended by the Hotel (we asked them at Midnight and were on the tour that afternoon and were very satisfied. In summary, I would heartily recommend Hotel 1898.
