This hotel is on the outskirts of the historic district. If you plan on checking out a lot of shopping or the historic homes - then you would want to stay closer to downtown. We drove and then parked to see a lot of things and to dine each night. This parking cost started to add up when you went down to explore the city, then came back downtown for dinner.
The hotel is very clean, all staff was very helpful and nice. The concierge sent us on a trip to the Lighthouse near Jolly Beach that no books even mentioned it was available. Although we only asked his opinion for this one event, he had a lot of sightseeing tips/trips that he could recommend so use him.
Note; Parking at hotel is an additional cost.
If you do one thing, take a carriage ride. The drivers are very informative and can point out different things that you may want to get a closer look at while you stay in Charleston.
Overall it was a great experience.
