Let me just start by saying if you are on a budget, stay at the Sonesta Maho. It's literally just around the bend from the airport, so that intial taxi fare won't hurt your wallet. The lobby area is lovely, besides smelling a little smoky, which coming from the florida where you can't smoke inside anywhere was noticable, but not overbearing. My room was huge!!! My room was also always clean, and cooled nicely. CAUTION, find out which side of the building you are staying on, my room had a lovly view of the hotel's water treatment area, which smelled, and was unsightly. However, I traveled to see the medical school there, which I could also see from my room so I was pleased with that. The pool is awesome and also huge, with a swim up bar, a bridge going over it, and a waterfall. The location of the hotel is right on the main strip of that side of town, and you can walk to great resturants shops and the casino, no need for cabs!!! Lastly, if you love air planes, this is the resort for you. Planes fly directly over the beach on the property just before landing, so close you almost make people out in the windows. It's truly a sight to see! It wasn't the swankiest hotel in the world, but for the price, it gave me more then I could have asked for: great drinks, clean room, helful staff, and excellant security! I'd definitly stay again!
