Rude front desk, but hotel was clean for it's age

Front Desk hostess was fairly rude when asked if I could utilized their private beach after the 11am (which seems early) checkout. She said , "No. You'll have to sit at the public beach down the road". I explained I had arrived late the previous night (11PM) and had to have breakfast before I would enter the beach area. This would put me after the 11am checkout. She smiled and said, "The public beach will be open to you. Thank you for staying with the Helmsley". The rooms were clean for their age. The beach looked nice. The pool area was clean. Room walls were very thin. Could hear both my neighbor's talking, and could hear people outside my door chatting.
