The Chateau Frontenac is situated in Old Quebec and emits a combination of old world charm and new world comfort. For my husband and me, as part of a celebration of 25 years of marriage, it was a natural choice. We loved the ambiance, very classically European, and the fact that we could walk around Old Quebec and then collapse in the amazingly comfortable bed. We took advantage of a price reduction in an online offer and were able to get a European-sized room (small!). The room was outfitted in French furniture and the fixtures in the bathroom matched. Many amenities could be found in the hotel lobby--a chocolate shop, clothing boutiques, gift shops. The hotel pool was a gem; with it being long enough for lap swimming and a nice large hot tub right next to it. We had a fabulous time! The only thing that marred the visit, and it was fairly annoying, was the night we went to get a drink at the hotel bar. The bar itself was tastefully decorated and contained a beautiful wooden bar that enclosed the bartenders in a circle. The bartender who was responsible for our section of the bar gave us service but not the kind we would have expected. He spent most of his time talking to the French speaking couple seated next to us and was very speedy with their service. While he was polite to us, he let us sit there waiting for quite a while before taking our order and then taking his time in responding to our requests and to bringing us the check when we were ready to go. For an elegant and cosmopolitan place, the Chateau should know better than to employ people who discriminate against those who are not fluent in French. Overall, the time we had together at the Chateau was terrific and I would recommend it to friends.
