Beautiful old hotel; great hospitality

I stayed at the hotel for a few days while in Portland on business. The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer. They were gracious and friendly both when we arrived at midnight and when we left at 6 am. When we asked them to suggest a restaurant, they called ahead for a reservation and ordered a very nice appetizer for us. My room was upgraded, so I also enjoyed having a gas fireplace. My only complaints would be about the clock radio, which was impossible to program; the heating system, which was so loud that I ended up turning it off for the night; and the windows, which were too high for me to see out of (but it was raining, so there was nothing to see anyway). Otherwise, I had an excellent stay there.
