I took my husband here for his birthday and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is right on the beach, and the beach is lovely. The hotel has it's own beach chairs which you do not have to pay extra to use. The room was nice enough, although the bed was pretty hard. There was NO SAFE in the room, which we did not appreciate. You can use safety deposit boxes behind the front desk for no charge, which we did without incident, but it is definitely less convenient. The hotel concierge is connected somehow with the different tour companies in the area, and they try to push you into buying tours. We expect that pretty much everywhere in Mexico from the moment you land at the airport, but it would be nice to avoid it while at your hotel. Avoid the lobby, and it's fine. We paid for the all-inclusive rate which turned out to be a good deal. The food and drinks would have definitely cost A LOT more if we did the room-only rate. The restaurants are good with a good variety of foods. There is no beach/pool service, so you have to walk to the bar if you want a drink or snack while lounging. When you check in, the hotel will offer to "upgrade" you to an ocean view room for a fee. They told us that the price we paid was for a city room view, although the room location was not one of the options when we booked (you pay based on room size.) They claim to only be able to take cash for the upgrade, which turns out to be the exact same room but with an ocean view. I'm really not sure how to avoid this if you want the ocean view room, since you can't specify it when you book the room. It seems like a scam. The view was beautiful though.
