This hotel gave me the creeps upon first walking into the front lobby which gave off a stale, dank "dirty vaccum bag" smell. It didn't get any better when the nightdesk person ignored us for enough time to make us feel unwelcome. We had paid extra for a pullout sleeper bed for our teenager. We finally got to our out-dated '70s-era room, with threadbare bedding/draperies and wallpaper-peeling, and pulled out the sleeper mattress which had a permanent upside down "V" in the middle of it. We went back down to tell the nightdesk and the staff had changed to a friendlier face who easily apologized and gave us a "free upgrade" to a suite on a different floor. What a difference that made! This room had definitely been remodeled recently with good mattress/bedding/towels, was clean, very comfortable and felt worth the price. The hotel was very conveniently located within short walking distance of Powells Books and cafes.
