We were out in port Lucaya watching one of the football games at one of our favorite--and most frequented bars in the square. It got late and we got tired. My boyfriend and I decided it would be a good idea for us to get a hotel in the area instead of taking a cab 20 minutes back to the shipyard we were staying in. We walked around the corner to Pelican Bay Resort. We knew it was there because we had friends who had stayed in one of their amazing suites, who we also had lunch with at their awesome hotel restaurant. The drinks were a little pricy, but the food made up for it. You have to understand that sometimes, the hotels in the bahamas leave at least something to be desired, so I was extremely pleased with the room, service and location of this hotel. You're right next to the Port Lucaya square, so if you are one that needs silence when you go to bed at 8pm, this may not be the best location, but if you want to participate, or watch the local festivities; you're only a short walk away-- no cab needed. Not to mention all the restaurants, shops and adventure booths in the area. I'd recommend the fresh conch salad and fritters. One word of 'warning, there is no beach acceptable for laying off of this hotel, but a short walk across the street, you can usually sit in one of the other hotels/restaurants and lounge in the sun with the sand beneath your toes and a fruit-garnished cocktail in your hand. I would definitely stay in this hotel again upon returning to Port Lucaya.
