We stayed there for a week in November. The place is nice, clean, and quiet. It is close to airport on the east part of the island, perfect for exploring both north and south. There is a protected beach suitable for swimming in any weather, and another one popular with kitesurfers. Both were rather deserted, but we went there only in the morning, and spent days exploring the island. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The closest places to explore are the river and the road that goes inland along the river. There are a few waterfalls that you can see from the road, and nice views. This will take 1 hour at most. Do not go too far, there is nothing special on these dirt roads in the jungle. Do not take a boat or a kayak trip on the river. This is boring compared to other wonderful places in Kauai. You can also skip the "Grand Canyon" on the west side of the island. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most beautiful beaches are on the north side (you have to see the Secret Beach). There is one interesting hidden place at the south tip of the island , behind the Hyatt resort. You will need to drive a few miles on dirt road to get there. You park and the end of the road and walk though the pine forest to a nice sandy beach. If you continue to the left along the beach, you will get to rocks and some nice places for snorkeling when the waves are not too bad. This place is popular with locals. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The hike along the Na Pali coast is wonderful, at least the first 2 miles to the first beach. This hike starts from the north. You can also get to the Na Pali coast from the west side of the island by driving to the top of the cliffs on a steep park road. It is a long drive from the airport area, but the views are beautiful . You can walk a mile or so along the cliffs, looking d
