We booked a last minute vacation to go to DR for 5 days. We arrive on Saturday 4/9 around 4PM in the afternoon. The Hotel grounds are beautiful and the servers/room attendants are terrific. The food not so much and the cleaning not so much either. We have stayed at many RIU's over the last eight years and I can tell you from experieince we are not about all of the hype if the room, service, food and grounds are in good standards we never complain. This hotel does have problems, the food is not that good and the cleaning isn't either there are flies in the main lounge areas because the tables and chairs are not washed on a regular basis. I watched a bird walk across the deli ham at the lunch buffet and waited to see if the supervisor would remove - he didn't. I had to go up to him to ask him to remove so no one would eat it - guess what he still didn't remove it from the buffet - this does not sit well with me. We did have a great time at Bambu where the swim up bar is - this resort is only a minute walk from Macao and seem to have a younger crowd. The beach was beautiful and the drink servers are terrific. I love being able to walk the beach for miles and the shops at the point were nice, a bit pricey but had good deals if you can haggle. I do enjoy going to the RIU chain but I would not go back to this one. Also we met folks at the airport that attempted to stay at the RIU Palace all to find out they were over booked and stated no one seem to want to help them find alternatives in a speedy fashion. It may be the DR way but the front desk staff at these RIU resorts are very lack luster for lack of a better term. The entertainment staff is terrifc daily activities in abundance.
