This past summer we had made reservations for one of the very small. least expensive rooms which are comfortable, functional but somewhat spartan. They are great if you plan to spend most of your time enjoying the fantastically beautiful scenery and great outdoors and only need a comfortable, clean place to sleep. When we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a very nice, spacious, attractively decorated room for a nominal fee--- we took it. The location of the lodge, a short walk to Lake Louise, is a real bonus, especially when you see all the cars lined up on the main road everyday trying to get into the public parking lot. The lodge does provide free, convenient parking for guests. The dining room has very good food, better quality at a much more reasonable price than any of the larger nearby establishments. The grounds are attractively landscaped, beautiful flowers, and on mild days it is very pleasant to eat outside. The main part of the lodge was built many years ago and it has the charm and character of an older establishment. The stairs creak and there is no elevator but the wood paneling and the period furniture in the reception rooms add to its appeal.
