I've been coming here for over 30 years. I must say towards the end of the nineties, the old grand dame seemed to be getting a bit tattered. Sometime in the past 5 years or so, they did a complete remodel and it is back to it's former glory. Both the rooms and the room/suites are very comfortable and well appointed. Try to get a room above floor 3 if you can for the most quiet. Plaza views are much nicer than back views, if that is important to you. The staff could use a bit more training. Every time I come, it seems to be all new people who don't seem very experienced, even though they try to be nice. In summary, if you are staying anywhere near the plaza, I think the Rafael offers the most comfort and convenience for the price.
