I stay here often on business. This is an older, 1920's or so vintage hotel that is recently beautifully refurbished. Rooms are a bit small, as you'd expect for a hotel of this era, but they are quite comfortable. They have newish color TV, safes, coffee maker, and free, fast internet by line or Wi-Fi. Rooms are either looking on the adjacent streets or a central courtyard. The center rooms are quieter. Some rooms I've had have a bit of trouble with temperature, as radiators providing heat will not turn off. This means at worst I feel wasteful because I run air conditioning all night in competition with a heater. It's never been such a problem that I lost sleep. The location is fantastic. Just a very short walk from the Montgomery BART station, Chinatown is a short walk and even the Civic Center is close enough if you feel like a good walk. I choose this hotel partkly because it means I do not need to rent a car, even though most of my business is usually in downtown Oakland. There are multiple great choices for meals nearby (even if you're not Irish, try Murphy's Pub across the street for better than average pub fare), and room service is very good. Finally, the staff are great. Don't miss the free wine reception evenings until 6:30pm in the lobby!
