First and foremost, Aston Kaanapali Shores is not at Kaanapali but just 2-3 miles north of it rather - another centralized location of resorts, hotels and condos in West Maui. Regardless, it is fairly conveniently located: just off the highway 30, with a strip mall and a grocery store across the street. There are small decent restaurants within walking distance from the property; and west and northwest Maui sites are just a short drive away. However, it takes about an hour to get to other parts of Maui: south, Haleakala, east, and the OGG airport. The property was relatively big but the beach was relatively small (this area is not suitable for swimming). The gorgeous sunsets at the beach are not to be missed ! I stayed at a garden-view condo with parents for my dad's birthday. The room is spacious and clean, with a fully equipped and nearly brand-new kitchen. Washer and dryer are also in the unit, very nice! The decor is dated but who cares, right? The king bed was comfy but the sofa bed was anything but. Early in the morning, birds started chirping at ~4am, so light sleepers should bring ear plugs or something. Shortly after, you can start hearing kids playing and screaming in the garden... But overall, very lively. Nothing short of a homey feel. I didn't have to deal with the staff often during our stay, but when we were checking in, we were not offered a room upgrade although we produced a valid voucher, namely due to "low availability". However there were plentiful empty suites which I noticed for the following days. Regardless, since we spent just that much time resting in the condo, eventually it didn't make much difference; although it would've been nicer!
