The drab and austere exterior belies the true appeal of this complex. Indeed, we missed the entrance completely on arrival late in the evening. It is older and looks a bit weathered and run down, all the way up to the floor mats and doorways of units. Once inside, it depends on your luck of the draw, since most are owned independently and only managed by one of several agencies (both on site and off). For after hours arrival, we called way ahead for access information, only to find out that both unit number and entry codes were incorrect. After several (increasing worrisome) calls and incorrect codes, we finally gained access. Fortunately, once inside we felt all that anxiety compensated as the unit was well kept and upgraded within a year or two. The complex has two wings (ocean front) running right along the beach (literally within a hundred feet, and you rarely get that close anywhere else on Maui!) We enjoyed fantastic sunsets on the balcony all through our stay. The only complaint was that while our unit (and most others I suppose was smoke free), apparently the one right below was not, and smoke coming up the balcony definitely spoiled the atmosphere. This complex on Sugar Beach is ideally located for golfers, being equidistant to most of the courses on the island.
