Powelll Hotel was nice considering the building has been there since 1908. For a smaller hotel the room was spacious, but the bathroom was on the small side and in a desparate need of a makeover. It looks like they put the grout on the tile countertops and never wiped off the excess. Staff was very nice and they had a complimentary drinks and snacks Monday through Thursday. They also have a bistro/sandwich shop in the lobby. Did not eat there, but saw many people from hotel and off the street coming in.
The hotel was in a great location as it sits right on Powell Street where you can catch a cable car, Muni or Bart. Union square was just a couple blocks away and Westfield Mall was across Market Street. For first time visitors, Westfield is a great mall, but you would never know it was there since the outside looks more like a normal 5-6 story building.
I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants nice accommodations, but does not want to blow their budget for a hotel room.
