Let me start off by saying that the hotel staff was AWESOME. Very sweet, helpful and respectful. We have nothing but great things to say about all of them, valet included. The location is also GREAT. Directly across the street from the Peabody if you want to see the ducks. Also just 2 blocks from Beale St. That was fabulous.
Now...about the hotel. Pay attention to the bad reviews about the hotel itself because they are right. It is dilapidated, straight out of the 70's and smells really bad. The walls in the bathroom were peeling and buckled - you could tell there was water damage from upstairs. The shower was HORRIFIC. It literally (and I'm not exaggerating at all) went from cold to scalding hot over and over during our showers. You had to jump in and out of the way of the water so as to not get burned or frozen. AWFUL. Not even safe. The toilet was broken and didn't flush properly. The door locks were the old chain locks on top and literally every piece of furniture was chipped and shabby. We were in a room directly over the entrance to the Denny's downstairs and were woken up off and on with people yelling and laughing loudly below. Only 1 elevator was working. The carpets throughout the hotel looked as though they'd been there since the 70's. The hallways were awful - stained, rumpled and disgusting. I would NEVER stay here again. There are tons of other hotels surrounding this place. Do yourself a favor and pay an extra $* and stay in someplace decent. The price for this hotel ($* including mandatory $* for valet) is not that great of deal considering how lousy the hotel itself is. Again, great staff & location though.
