My sister and I spent 5 days at the Empress in July 2010 and really enjoyed the hotel. We had a room with 2 queen-sized beds and a large sitting area. All the employees we had contact with were very professional, friendly, and helpful. For 2 seniors, the Empress' central location was especially important: The information booth just across the street has tour information and tickets as well as stamps; the bus terminal is just behind the hotel; the legislature building is to the left and downtown restaurants and shops are to the right; and of course the view of the inner harbour directly across the street is refreshing day or night. We ate at the Veranda restaurant in the hotel the night we arrived and the food was delicious and the service extraordinary--at my request for decaf iced tea, the waiter actually made it for me. My sister and I shared a quiche and the chefs, instead of just cutting one in half, somehow made it into two small round quiches. However, as expected, the restaurants are expensive and we chose outside restaurants thereafter, except for having the afternoon tea at the Empress. I would highly recommend the Empress!
