We were more than pleasantly surprised to find a perfectly beautiful resort with excellent, large rooms, lovely landscaping, wonderful service and lots of amenities (down to two umbrellas in our room in case it rained). Ponte Vedra has a terrific golf course (so we heard--we don't play), two outdoor pools, lots of little bars and lounges, lots of shops--and a gorgeous long and wide ocean beach that's carefully tended. The place is child-friendly, too.
Breakfast is served in the inn's main dining room--complete with linens and flowers and a huge buffet. Ponte Vedra has three other full-menu restaurants--we felt the two flagship restaurants were not as good as the one in the golf club, which anyone can go to. The other two almost try too hard to gussy up the food--fresh fish, for example, does not require heavy sauces and gnocci with it; simple grilling will do. That's about our only criticism. The staff was superb and responsive to our questions and needs. And there's lot to do and see in St. Augustine, Jacksonville and other towns in the area. We plan to go back with our children and grandchildren.
